Explaining the car pictures
So when I posted the pictures of our poor car, I figured that everyone had already heard the story of Sara's accident a couple of months ago. But since that doesn't seem to be the case, I'll add a quick explanation.
So the week before Sara left she went to Utah to visit roommates and friends, etc. Her last night there, she was dropping someone off in Springville, was stopped at a light, and got rear-ended by some 21-year old idiot who wasn't paying attention because he was looking for a CD or something. So she was stopped and he was going over 40 mph. He hit Sara and killed our car, she hit the car in front of her, who hit the car in front of them. So this one guy caused a 4 car accident. Sara was ok (she ended up going to the doctor in Denver just to make sure) and the guy she was giving a ride home went to the hospital but was fine. The airbags deployed, etc, and the trunk was totally demolished.
I am impressed by how the car was engineered; you can actually see the crumple zones at the end of the passenger area of the car. Everything beyond that is crushed, but where the people are looks fine. Which is exactly what's supposed to happen. But the car was totalled. So we got a new car (well, a newer car) with a cool GPS thing inside it so we'll never get lost again (right). That's the story.

I gotta say I'm impressed with the engineering of the car. Note the crumple zones at the end of the trunk space.

Another Sara china pic. Doug: I can't tell if this means don't drive with a cell phone, or don't take a dump with a cell phone. You decide.

Hello Family!
Hello everyone, its Aly! I'm just signing in to say hi. Things are good here in Colorado. I am in the school musical, Oklahoma!, as a "featured dancer." We started rehearsals 2 Fridays ago and it has been tons of fun already. But because of it I can't go to dance as much which kind of makes me sad. But its worth it! well, I can't really dance a lot anyways because I hurt my tailbone again haha. Anyways, this is right before Sara left at the airport. That was kind of sad, but exciting at the same time. It's just Kristie and I again and the house is a lot cleaner and quieter. But I'll let sara tell you about China. Anyways, i love you all and i'll post more later.
Welcome to the Archer Family Blog!
Well hello family members! Welcome to the Archer family webpage/blog. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions by emailing me at doug.archer@gmail.com.
This webpage allows you to start new threads, comment on old ones, and even post pictures, though make sure your pictures aren't much bigger than 1024 x 768 (~500 kb), or they will look really, really big.
To get things started, let me tell you a little bit about what I've been up to.
Things are going well for me here in Tucson at the University of Arizona. I am pursuing a PhD in Planetary Science, which should occupy me for about the next four years of my life. My classes are interesting, though I'm looking forward to finishing them up in a few more semesters, then just concentrating on research. My ultimate goal is to work for NASA and be involved with the human space exploration effort; specifically, I want to help get people to Mars.
Grad school may not be a very high paying occupation, but it can take me to exotic places every once in a while, like to Waikiki Beach in Honolulu for example. Here is a picture of me in Hawaii about a month ago:
Fun, huh? I was there for an astrobiology conference, learning about weird life on earth and the possibility of life on other planets. And the best thing was the trip was all expenses paid. So thank you NASA. I also had the wonderful experience of getting up close and personal with some liquid hot "magma"(said in the voice of Dr. Evil), here is a picture of that:
If you've never seen lava, next time you go to Hawaii, don't miss the chance, it was well worth the hike!
Other than that, I do have one picture of family interest that hopefully you will all appreciate. Though I'm glad to have finished the whole BYU experience, I'm sad to have missed Utah Football's phenomenal year. To keep up with the team, I was a regular in Tucson area sports bars, where I watched every game of the season minus the Utah State game, which wasn't broadcast, and the Wyoming game, which had technical difficulties. So to close out the football season and start 2005 off right, dad and I made the trip to Tempe to cheer on the Utes. Though it may not have been as close a game as the Rose Bowl, the 70,000 Utah fans, including the Archer's, thoroughly enjoyed the rout. Here is a picture of a couple of handsome devils at the end of the game:
Well, I think that's enough for now. Again, feel free to comment on the blog itself, the staff in our complaint department will get right on any suggestions you may have. And please, feel even more free to start posting your own goings on and pictures to the website. This can be a great way to keep tabs on everyone and as it is automatically archived, will represent a great collection of Archer family memories. And with that . . . . blog away!
